As I wade through hundreds of daily pitches in the throes of gift guide season, I've been reflecting on the two types of stories I write. In the first group are stories for which pitches rarely land. And in the second group are stories where I've noticed just about every remotely viable pitch ends up in the final, published draft on a major national outlet’s site.
Today, I'm going to dig into when and why that happens, and how you can align your pitch with a story for which a writer is inclined to look for even the tiniest shred of value in what you have to say and place it in coverage.
