As I wade through so many pitches every day — many hundreds in the height of gift guide seasons — I've been reflecting on the two types of stories I write. In the first group are stories for which pitches rarely land (I’m sorry, it’s a cold reality).
And in the second group are stories where I've noticed just about every remotely viable pitch ends up in the final, published draft on a major national outlet’s site.
Today, I'm going to dig into when and why that happens, and how you can align your pitch with a story for which a writer is inclined to look for even the tiniest shred of value in what you have to say and place it in coverage.
