After I wrote here about how to pitch journalists in times of national tragedy following the Texas school shooting, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) invited me to speak on the topic for a meeting organized by its Los Angeles chapter.
The Zoom event is slated for next Thursday, June 30th at 8 am PT. The topic will be working with journalists during times of tragedy and global mega-stories that disrupt the “normal” news cycle. Per the invite:
We’ve all grappled with how to pitch relatively routine story ideas when everyone’s attention is focused elsewhere, and now is a good time to get prepared for the inevitable mega-stories that lie ahead.
Veteran journalists Alesandra Dubin and Anita Busch will share their expert tips. They will be interviewed by renowned media strategist David Bloom for a candid and insightful discussion, followed by audience Q&A.
The event is free for PRSA LA members or $10 for non-members and you can RSVP here.
Covid chronicles
I’m pleased to be able to close the chapter for everyone following along at home: I just got the results from my antibody blood draw and I definitively did not have Covid back in May (when I had both symptoms and a single positive PCR test). Huh.
I might also add that three of my best friends around the world got Covid this week, and two are quite sick. Not for nothing, keep your wits about you.

I’m obsessed with the game-changing platform Otter.ai. I use it to both record interviews and also to transcribe them in real time. You can also use it to record/transcribe any type of meeting — so anyone who missed it can easily access the Cliff’s Notes version. There’s a pro plan for agencies/companies with a ton of neat features. Check out Otter.ai here.
Freshbooks is the bookkeeping tool I use exclusively for my invoicing, expenses, and reporting. It’s the best, IMHO, so I evangelize. Get FreshBooks here.
