Obviously, go Rams! With temps in the 80s, my hometown was just plain showing off this weekend. And I am here for it.
Yes, we finally have pro football again in town (dayenu). Then there’s our a baller new stadium, and an L.A. Super Bowl, and a championship team, and the best-ever halftime show. (Yes, I am squarely in the target demo and I pity kids these days who don’t even know what good music sounds like. Get off my lawn.)
Beyond that, it’s just such a thrill that events are back! Even in L.A., where we believe in science! It’s really a joy to behold. For all the viable workarounds, there’s just no substitute for face-to-face events. (Spoken like a longtime editor for an event industry trade, as well as the wife of an event lighting business owner. Events are in my blood, what can I say.)
To that end, I attended a full-scale event last week: a special screening for Bel Air (the Fresh Prince reboot) on Peacock. It was the biggest-scale production I have been to since the pandemic began.
Yes, there was a proof-of-vaccine requirement as well as on-site COVID-testing for all guests. (And it was seamlessly executed notwithstanding the intricacy of the operation.) But beyond that, it was just a big, impressive event, held in a Bel Air estate that was the stuff of my real estate dreams.
It was mostly outside, but not entirely; rooms inside each had individual themes (with relevant sponsorships), like Will’s bedroom, Aunt Viv’s art gallery, etc. There was actual tray-passed catering. There was a photo booth (with a Carlon’s class picture motif). There was a screening theater built on a basketball court! It was gorgeous and gracious and a vibe that’s been so sorely missed.
Feeling fresh at Peacock’s Feb. 10 Bel Air event
With our weather here, it’s not hard to internalize a springtime mindset. It feels like a thawing out. Yes, our lives were flip-turned upside down (see what I did there?) but better times might well be ahead.
And a week of such exciting live events in town seems only to underscore that palpable sense of hope.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours!
