Last week, Dotdash Meredith laid off hundreds of staffers, with an all-hands meeting slated for today for those who remain. It was just the most recent in the latest wave of editorial layoffs.
Of course, these waves have been happening for years — decades.
When I was laid off in 2019, it was a vulnerable time. And it taught me a lot. For instance, it made abundantly clear to me the right way — and the wrong way — for industry allies to react.
Here’s what I think all publicists would be smart to do right now — like before the end of the day — as an essential response to these masthead shakeups.
