It’s been 150 degrees in Los Angeles for a stretch. So what did I do? I went to Palm Springs for the weekend. Going to the desert is normally not a logical choice when you want to cool off. But the fact is it wasn’t even too much warmer out there than in sweltering L.A. Plus, I don’t have a pool at home, but I did have one there!
The most fun part was that it was an impromptu two-generation girls’ trip with my daughter, one of my oldest girlfriends from UC Berkeley, and her daughter. And it came together just about 24 hours in advance — that’s about as spontaneous as I get these days and it felt so good.
I hope everyone is staying reasonably cool out there! New open press opportunities, and all the rest, below.

For this story, I’m looking for comments from an expert — and I’m open to exactly what field that person is in, as long as it’s a bona fide source to speak to this topic (travel, security, safety, etc.).
For Southern Living, I’m working on a story about: can you eat pumpkin skin? I’m open to chefs from the Southern U.S. to add comments/tips that give voice to this story.
LAST CALL: For Travel + Leisure, I’m working on a roundup of the best luxury hotel-style bedding to make your bed at home feel like a luxury hotel. I’m open to pitches for pillows, duvets/quilts, sheets, and comforters.
