Since Muck Rack ranked me on its list of the top 10 most popular journalists of 2024, the platform has asked me to contribute to some content aimed at helping publicists pitch effectively.

Here’s a relevant snippet of my comments from the most recent such piece:

Play the long game: I cannot emphasize this enough. Success in this realm truly depends on relationships. While it’s very easy for me to ignore a stranger’s name in my inbox, I always feel obligated (if not eager) to respond to communications from people I actually know, who have helped me in the past, or whose ideas I know I can trust. Make the investment in the authentic relationship — especially important when it comes to working with freelancers who have a voice in multiple outlets now, and presumably many others to come.

In other news, I’m headed to Mexico tomorrow for what will be the official last hurrah in a summer filled with nonstop excitement and adventures (here, I’m defining summer as my kids’ school break). My kids heads back to school a week from today and it will be back to early morning wakeups and homework and extracurriculars. It sure was fun while it lasted!
