Over the last few days, I’ve received a handful of otherwise appealing pitch emails that lost me after suddenly veering into not-OK territory. So it seemed like a good time to resurface an earlier post that specifically addresses what I consider a big no-no that can tank coverage chances for an otherwise on-target pitch.
I get hundreds of daily PR pitches, and obviously can’t feasibly use everything. But the fact is I almost always hold onto pitch emails in case there is any future application; I use my inbox like a search engine and like to have all the archives at the ready.
But there is one kind of pitch that makes the hair on my neck stand up such that I don’t even want the stink of it anywhere in my inbox. These are the kind of pitches I’ll delete immediately (or sometimes even send back an uncharacteristically terse scolding reply). The ones that are hard passes from right out the gate.
