This time of year, saccharine expressions of gratitude are a dime a dozen. So let me just toss my professional thanks onto the pile.

• I’m so grateful for this self-employed, freelance life, which I truly love and which also allows me to be both a human and a professional simultaneously.

• I’m thankful that, for all of the absolute madness of the last couple of years, work remains abundant, varied, lucrative, and rewarding. (I get to learn something new almost every day — how great is that?)

• I’m so thankful for the experiential and travel opportunities this work provides, which together round out a full and extraordinary life.

• I’m so grateful for smart and warm friends and colleagues, who have inspired me over the years with business-building ideas (like hey, this newsletter!) and have extended their hands to lift me up and support me. (I can’t recommend being laid off, as I was in 2019, but it’s a great way to learn who your friends are as you dust yourself off!)

• I’m thankful for kind, patient, responsive, and smart editors and clients who value my work and tell me so.

• I’m so grateful for publicists who have become friends, confidantes, and valued partners over decades (!) as parallel players in a fast-changing business.

Thank you — each and every one of you — for your friendship, support, sincerity, loyalty, understanding, and good humor. Thank you for helping me share your stories and for being a part of mine.
