What one PR pro wishes she knew before going solo
A publicist shares how she got from "crisis mode" to "I couldn't be be happier with where I am today."
Amid the devastation of so many media jobs in recent weeks/months (/decades), I’ve been covering the grim news here and thinking a lot about how my own layoff changed my professional life for the better, a story I retold in yesterday’s newsletter.
And while I’m happy with my career trajectory since my layoff, that transition period was filled with so many uncomfortable unknowns. I wish I’d known that everything was going to be OK when I was in the middle of it.
So if it helps, I’m here to remind you that it will be great for you too if you decide to — or find yourself forced to — make a leap during these uncertain (and frankly bleak) tines for our industry.
For more inspiration and clarity, I’m re-sharing a previous interview with a publicist who went out on her own and is thriving now more than three years later.
I worked with this person closely in her agency days — before a layoff forced her to take a leap of faith and start her own thing. The view from the other side looks good. But here’s what a PR pro wishes she knew earlier in the journey.
