I’ve written about the one pitch I always delete immediately, and I regret if framing the advice that way makes it come off as negative. For balance — and for encouragement — it seems only fair that I should also cover the one type of pitch that always gets my attention (even if I’m slammed and I’d rather just ignore it).
I get hundreds of pitch emails per day. And some of them are actually rather easy to ignore — for instance, if the subject matter is completely irrelevant to my beats, or if I find the approach downright offensive (like sexist, antisemitic, or downright creepy).
Others I’ll file away and maybe get a chance to look at down the road. But the one category of pitch that I always respond to is:
